Working on the knockdown shot

A golf course is full of twist, turns and high winds. Thus, In order to improve your game you need to work on your knockdown shots effectively.

Knockdown shots:

A knockdown shot is also known as the punch shot or stinger shot. It is the type of shot that is carried through the air to clear the trees or low hanging braches and sometimes the high wind. These shots can be quiet complicated to understand, because of the different techniques involved. However, you can follow some simple tips and guidelines to make the most of your skills and enhance your knockdown shots.

The knockdown moment:

There are three principles you need to follow to work on your punch shots. They are good clubs, good stance and short swings. This may sound hackneyed and simple. However, these three things are very important as you plan on hitting the shots. You need to be very aware of the qualities of your clubs, as knockdown shots require slightly different clubs and techniques of grip. Normally, players require more clubs than they usually need for non-knockdown shots. Your punch shots need more clubs, as you have to prevent the ball from climbing up into the air. Next you need to concentrate on your stance. The balls need to be played on the back stance. The weight should be maximum on your left leg with your hands placed forward obscuring the view of your left knee. This prepares you for the swing. Here, you need to visualize the ball and the target clearly. This image will help you to adjust the technique according to the need of the moment. The last step is in having a clean and short follow through. This will prevent the ball from having the undesired height. Your focus should be on hitting the ball underneath the wind. Thus, your strategy right from the very beginning needs to support this goal. With the help of regular practice and execution of your skills you can have a great knockdown moment and a much-improved game in your pocket.
