Using standardized golf balls

Not every ball can serve as a golf ball. You need to use standardized golf balls as prescribed by the rules, to play your game accurately.

Standardized balls:

A lot of experimentation was carried out in the early years of the sport in order to arrive at a standardized golf ball. However, it was not until 1921, that the ball was standardized in terms of its size and weight. Since then the standardized balls have created quiet a controversy, as many organizations differed in their rules related to the standardization of balls. Thus, before using any ball, you need to be aware of the rules and regulations surrounding its use. You also need to take many things into consideration before using golf balls.

Usage:

Golf balls are usually available for free use in many golf academies. They can be purchased by players for personal use. Balls differ amongst themselves in terms of their rule. For instance some balls are used specially for practice purposes. However, Standardized balls are strictly required in competitive games. Before using any ball you need to be aware of certain things. Firstly, make sure that the ball you are using is standardized. Prefer using balls made by reputable manufacturers. The minimum diameter of a golf ball is 42.67mm with the mass extending not more than 45.93g. The next thing you may have to consider is the type of ball. Golf balls are divided into three groups based on their construction; they are the two, three and four piece covers. These covers indicate the style of construction. You also need to be aware of the qualities of these balls. For example, some harder balls made from Surlyn are more apt in traveling longer distances as compared to the soft covers, which give greater amount of spin. Thus,The balls vary amongst themselves in terms of their characteristics like covering disatnces, spin and the overall feel. Some ametures may find these specifications as sliightly bemusing, however, use of standardised balls is the only option you have to learn and play your game the right way.
