Having a proper diet

Golf is all about staying fit and flexible. This can be achieved by engaging in regular physical exercise supported fully by a well balanced diet.

Influence on the game:

Fitness and flexibility are two important components that keep the players moving. Having a balanced and proper diet ensures that the body is well prepared for the strenuous game ahead. Food also influences the clarity of though process as too much food can cause lethargy and too little can lead to fatigue and mental exhaustion. Having a proper diet is therefore very necessary.

Tips on improving your diet:

If you get fatigued easily, are overweight or underweight, then it is time to analyze your food pyramid properly. However, if you are not aware of nutritional value of different kinds of food, then you can seek help of a qualified dietician. Basically, athletes need to maintain their weight. This can be achieved by avoiding fatty food items like fried food, sweets etc. However diet habits cannot be changed in a day, therefore, it is necessary to change your lifestyle gradually. Besides fitness, diet influences your energy level and concentration. Some types of food specially hydrogenated and refined ones, lead to sluggishness and loss of energy. Substituting these food articles with green leafy vegetables and fruits makes a big difference in your overall health. Players also need to keep a check on the consumption of red meat and alcohol. Alcohol and some forms of meat are loaded with calories. Players need to be very cautious in their ‘social drinking’ habits as well. Many players also tend to substitute water with diet sodas and such other drinks. However, water cannot, and should not be replaced by any other drink. Diet sodas are capable of doing as much damage to your health as other soft drinks. It is necessary to keep yourself well hydrated before and during a game. Sips of water or sports drink help a lot in this respect.

By following simple diet plans and your own commonsense, you can stay fit, alert and on top of the game.
