Breathing exercises to help you improve your game



Despite the strenuous exercises, the total workout is not quiet done until and unless players concentrate on some form of classic breathing exercises.

How they help:

While total body workouts are designed to simply exercises your physical body, breathing ones are more inclined in purifying the body along with the mind in order to help players focus better, perform with zeal and maintain their overall health and mental well being. Yoga is specially very useful in controlling your breathing and sustaining your body in the most tiring of all situations. This in itself gives you a psychological advantage over your opponents.

Breathing exercises:

There are different types of breathing exercises that the players can take advantage of depending upon their convenience and physical abilities. The great thing about these exercises is that they can be done virtually at any time and any place. They do not require heavy equipment and can fit into any person’s busy schedule. Basically, deep breathing exercises and Yoga are widely practiced by golfers. Yoga is especially useful as it combines the physical movements of the body along with breathing exercises. This perfect combination is very good for establishing body rhythm and players get a complete workout in the process. Pranayam plays a major role in yoga. In the word ‘Pranayam’, ‘prana’ means the energy of the body while ‘yarna’ means the ability of the body to expand the breath, which releases energy in the body. You need to get training in Pranayam and other breathing exercises, as they need to be performed correctly in order to get their full advantage. Only an expert can help you understand the intricacies of such exercises. Breathing exercises vary in terms of their target areas. For instance, some exercises focus more on holding the breath while others focus on releasing the breath. Some also aim at purification of the body. Breathing exercises are relatively safe. However, before embarking on any new exercises related to breathing, you need to consult your physician if you are over thirty or have heart related problems.
