Avoid mental lapses during your game

Picture this, you are on the field, with the club in your hand and suddenly you go blank. This is an all too familiar situation afflicting even the most professional of all players. However, Mental lapses can be avoided with the help of simple techniques.

Mental lapses:

Mental lapses can affect you at any point in the game. You are more susceptible after spending long hours on the field. Usually, You will find your concentration ebbing away. You will also fail to actualize your original game plan. Mental lapses are not limited to the mental aspect alone. It starts showing in your body movements as you take the stance and handle the club. You can even fade out completely in the game midway.

Avoiding mental lapses:

Having a sound preshot routine is very effective in avoiding mental lapses. Preshot routines help you to think in an organized manner and maintain your concentration in the process. There are other simpler ways to avoid mental lapses. Firstly, you need to maintain your physical energy. This can be achieved by adequately keeping your body fueled with food and hydrated with fluids. Only an energized body can think positively about the game. You also need to have a good warm-up or stretching rounds as they help you to relax both before the game and in between round. You can practice some deep breathing exercises to calm yourself down if you start feeling the familiar sensation of an upcoming mental lapse. Many players engage in positive self-talk to avoid mental lapses. This usually works, as you are able to gather all your wits about you and get a grip on your thought processes. There are some relaxation techniques like muscle relaxations, which can help you gain control over your physical movements effectively. However, you need to practice all these techniques daily as you may find application of these techniques without practice as highly impossible in crunch situations. By successfully following these techniques, you can avoid mental lapses and do full justice to your skills and to your game.
